October newsletter

Welcome to the new format of the society newsletter, which will now be updated in blog form. This means you’ll get more regular updates from the players, as previously we had to wait for enough content to fill the newsletter before it could be sent.

Moving to a blog format will enable us to update our members with news on a more regular basis, keeping you more regularly updated with information within the society as it happens.

Don’t worry – you don’t need to remember to keep checking for updates. We’ll send all members and patrons an email with links to any new posts on a regular basis.

Actor on stage

The way forward

Although more details will be discussed at the 2020/21 AGM, we know many people are waiting to hear how we intend to move forward and when we can look forward to another production.

Following numerous committee meetings over the last three months, the committee has deemed it sensible not to try and stage an annual pantomime this year but to aim to re-launch something in spring 2022.

Leading men take a final bow

Since we all last met, The Players have bid a fond farewell to two members of the society, Life Member Don Biddle and Society President Bob Parker.

Don Biddle

Many of you will have fond memories of Don, a member of the Leckhampton players since the 1960s.

Don last appeared on stage in 2002, aside from a brief appearance in 2014; however, he always remained a keen supporter of all we did and was a very proud life member.

Bob Parker

Less of you will know Bob by name, but he has been our president since 2007. Bob and his wife Barbara (who sadly passed away in 2019) were avid supporters for many years and never missed a show.

Until recent years when ill health took over, Bob and Barbara could both be seen with beaming smiles as they watched and soaked up every word of whatever was being performed.

We will miss both Don and Bob greatly and send our sincere condolences to their families.

🎉 Congratulations 🎉

Rob & Alice 🤍

Congratulations to member Rob Tribe and his wife Alice, who married on June 4th, 2021.

Rob and Alice, we’re denied the wedding they had originally planned for April 2020 due to the global pandemic; however, we are thrilled to hear that they have finally been able to tie the knot and celebrate with their nearest and dearest.

Louise & John 💍

Congratulations to Member Louise Gray and Fiance John Genever, who announced their engagement in April 2021.

Louise and John will be getting married in Mexico on April 15th, 2022.

On behalf of the society, we send best wishes to both couples and wish them every happiness for their futures.

Membership fees and renewals

The treasurer would like to remind members that membership fees will be due for renewal at the forthcoming AGM, and will cover the period until the next AGM in Spring 2022.

Membership fees remain at £5.00 for adults and £3.00 for children. Please ensure you bring cash as we are unable to accept payment by credit/debit card at the present time.

Patrons subscriptions will be collected in the new financial year, from 1 April 2022 (£5 per person or £9 for a couple).

The ‘Potted’ Pantomime

The Players have been approached to perform a short ‘Potted’ Style Panto for residents of a care home this December.

We have (in principle) accepted and will be looking for some volunteers to help. This will be open only to adult members, and only a handful of cast will be required.

If we can put something together, we may offer it to other care homes in the area over a couple of weekends in December.

Dan Peacey and Rob Tribe will be putting this together and hold auditions to cast it if necessary.

If you would like to be considered for our potted pantomime, please email info@leckhamptonplayers.com to register your interest before October 17th, 2021.
